The exchange was prompted by a satirical article.
The “fake news” post was titled “Elon Musk buys Fortnite and deletes it.” It included a fake quote by Musk explaining how the deletion of the game was to the youth’s benefit: “I had to save these kids from eternal virginity.” The entrepreneur seemed to dig the joke and shared the content in humourous agreement. He takes credit for the imagined action of generosity.

His tweet was obviously meant as a joke, in line with the intention of the original post. Fortnite still took the opportunity to return virtual fire. The insanely popular game’s account clapped back at Musk, making fun of how long it takes him to complete space-related projects:
“A whole decade, @elonmusk? Just build, LOL.”

The game’s comment relates to how quickly its users can build their digital worlds, turning resources into shelters instantly. Elon didn’t miss a beat with his witty response, hitting back with a most appropriate reality check by typing, “Reality is hard.”
